More than 1,000 species discovered in Mekong: WWF
Dec 15, 2008
BANGKOK (AFP) — Scientists have discovered more than 1,000 species in Southeast Asia’s Greater Mekong region in the past decade, including a spider as big as a dinner plate, the World Wildlife Fund said Monday.
A rat thought to have become extinct 11 million years ago and a cyanide-laced, shocking pink millipede were among creatures found in what the group called a “biological treasure trove”.
The species were all found in the rainforests and wetlands along the Mekong River, which flows through Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and the southern Chinese province of Yunnan.
“It doesn’t get any better than this,” Stuart Chapman, director of WWF’s Greater Mekong Programme, was quoted as saying in a statement by the group.
“We thought discoveries of this scale were confined to the history books.”

Oldest Pot Stash Ever!

Stash for the afterlife: A photograph of a stash of cannabis found in the 2,700-year-old grave of a man in the Gobi Desert. Scientists are unsure if the marijuana was grown for more spiritual or medical purposes, but it’s evident that the man was buried with a lot of it. Evidently they ate it back then.

Before After
I had the surgery last Friday and get the stitches, tape, and splints taken out this Friday. I can tell you this; IT HURTS! Time will tell if this is all worth it or not but if I can breath through my nose again and stop snoring, I will call it a success. 3 1/2 hours of surgery seems like a long time for reducing my turbinates, straightening my septum, and grafting cartilage. I can’t help but wonder what else they did with me. I can’t stop singing “Moon River”.

No Nose like a working Nose
By cassover | November 11, 2008

Friday I go in to have surgery on my schnoz. Yipee! The plan is for me to be able to breath again and not keep my wife up at night with my log sawing. Dad asked me to post pictures so I just might do that. In short, they are moving my septum over, grafting cartalidge for wedging my nasal passages to a wider position, and doing a "lipo" type proceedure on the turbinants (those red fleshy things in the picture above). I don’t know the guy above, I just used him for color and illustration purposes.
